Summer Reading Club

Keep your students reading
over the summer.

Reading helps prevent
 "Summer Brain Drain"

According to a study by Dr. Harris Cooper (Professor of Psychology at the University of Missouri-Columbia)  when students return to school after a long summer vacation, they've lost one to three months worth of learning.

His top suggestion is that parents keep lots of books around,  and make regular trips to the library.

What you can do:

Contact your local library if they don't contact you first.

  • Get information on their Summer Reading Club

  • find out if the Librarian will do a school visit

  • Encourage returning students to compete in the reading program; frequently Libraries reward the top reader, and will have incentives for certain levels of commitment.

  • Take your own children to the library, and see what they have to offer.
